One of a Kind opened in 1986, specializing in French cuisine. Chef To quickly gained an outstanding reputation, the restaurant winning acclaim in the Toronto Star in its debut year.

In 1992, One of a Kind began to specialize in Continental cuisine before focusing on Italian cuisine with an Asian twist in 1996 with its relocation to the current address at 746 Queen West.
